INSIGHTS / BRANDING
Show up the same way every time. Revenue notices. Brand consistency is a measurable commercial lever, not decoration.
Most businesses treat branding as the decorative task at the end of the project: the logo, the colors, the launch. The data tells a different story. Consistency in how a brand looks and speaks is one of the better-evidenced revenue levers in marketing, and the evidence keeps arriving from independent sources.
33%
Upper bound for revenue growth attributed to consistent brand presentation, from the State of Brand Consistency Report.
Source: Lucidpress (now Marq), State of Brand Consistency Report, 2019 edition (400+ brand experts surveyed). Up 10 percentage points from the 2016 edition (23%), which surveyed 200+ organizations. Respondents put the typical expected increase at 10-20%. Self-reported expectation across two studies; the 33% is the disciplined upper bound, not the average.
The second study makes it structural, not corporate
Creative effectiveness research reaches the same conclusion from a totally different direction. System1 and the IPA measured the creative consistency of 56 brands over five years and connected it to the IPA Effectiveness Databank and YouGov metrics:
Campaigns from consistent brands produce 27% more very large brand effects (big uplifts in awareness, favorability and intent).
Inconsistent branding was estimated to cost the studied brands nearly £3.5 billion in five years in forgone profit.
Meaning: every time a brand drifts, it is not a harmless variation. It is a small tax on the next campaign’s reach and on the customer’s ability to remember who the company is.
What consistency actually requires
Consistency is not sameness. It is a system with a written source of truth:
1. Identity: logo, color, type, spacing, with the rules for every format.
2. Voice: whose head is speaking, and how a sentence is allowed to sound.
3. Delivery: the promise made on the website matches the experience delivered in the call.
4. Enforcement: a review gate so off-brand work does not ship just because it is urgent.
The third point is the one most companies miss. Visual consistency earns recognition. Experience consistency earns trust, and trust is what prices premium.
Where the audit fits
A brand cannot be consistent until it knows what it currently does everywhere: website, ads, email, materials, calls. The audit maps the whole machine, including how the brand actually shows up, and hands you the written, prioritized list of fixes. You keep everything it finds.
Let the brand earn. Not just decorate.
